Gluten free and dairy free guest!

I have some friends coming for supper tomorrow and one is both dairy and gluten free. The rest of us can eat anything. I am so stumped for ideas! Think very casual supper rather than going all out dinner party. Hit me with your fab ideas please!

Gluten free pasta with tomato based sauce (bolognese, tomato and aubergine)? All supermarkets do gluten free pasta now, tis easy Grin

Risotto? Just make sure stock cube/powder is GF.

Oooooo oooo have been dying to share this pudding recipe with someone that needs a gluten and dairy free option. Tis easy peasy to make and totally delish.

My default dealing with food intolerance/ vegan/ vegetarian informal dinner menu is fajitas/ mexican.

You can put everything in separate bowls and people help themselves to the bits their comfortable eating.

You can put out wraps, jacket skins, cheese, mixed peppers, fried onions, guacamole, sour cream, spicy meat(s) (just watch ready prepared spice mix for gluten), onion rings, nachos, salsa, lettuce, tomatoes.

You can do protein, such as chicken, salmon, etc with oven roasted vegetables (I use sweet potato, butternut squash, onions, red and green peppers and more in olive oil with garlic and herbs)

The coeliac society website has some great recipes or have a look at the Free From section in most supermarkets for inspiration.

spanish style tapas dishes, people can help themselves:

  • rice dish or paella
  • patas bravas (sp?)
  • chorizo in red wine sauce
  • chicken of some variety
  • stuffed olives and peppers
  • sundried tomatos

look at la tascs menu and steal ideas or cheat and buy the tesco tapas selection and decant into dishes

Steak, white beans with garlic and olive oli, green beans .

Chocolate moose, eggs, dark chocolate, sugar with strawberries / raspberries.

Thanks all that's given me a bit of inspiration and, crucially, a bit of a giggle at chocolate "moose" Wink

Didn't think of risotto! I'm crap at knowing what has gluten in and not.

Doh, Thanks for pointing it out though. Nothing like being made feel like a twit for not previewing first for the ego, first thing in the morning.

coffeewineandchocolate · 19/07/2013 06:32

bbq with buffet of salad, gluten free pasta etc

sashh · 19/07/2013 06:54

Slice aubergine and courgettes (1/2 aubergine and 2 courgettes per person)

Arrange in an ovenproof dish, drizzle oil over and cook for 15 mins.

While that's cooking fry some finely chopped onion, add some chopped tomatoes and a little boiled water - simmer until the dish in the oven has done.

Pour the tomato/onion mix over and put in the oven for another 15 mins.

Serve as a main or as a veg with grilled chicken and boiled rice.

Gosh sorry misty, didn't mean to make you feel like a twit, it just tickled me...
