Had a search for the Makhani receipe but nothing coming up online yet. Can't afford to buy the book but would love to try it.

Any Anjum Anand recipe I have tried has been delicious, though some are more complicated than others. I just found this , haven't tried it but looks relatively simple. also doesn't look too spicy if your guests are nervous and she explicitly says stir in yogurt or cream if you want.

Jamie Oliver's chicken tikka masala is delicious and not spicy at all if you just leave out the fresh chilli (which I do as DH is a big girls blouse )
