Mild and/or fruity curry for small people's palates

My dts (18mo) love the Ella's kitchen Chicken and Mango curry and are quite partial to the Thai one, but I'd rather do home cooked. Does anyone have any good curry recipes in a similar vein? I also looked for a peanut and coconut one (satay sticks are out as DS is funny with lumps of meat) but no joy. Inspire me please!

My little lady also loves curries. These are her favourites (they are all vegetarian):
Beetroot and yoghurt curry
Indian spiced lentils
sweet coconut, celeriac and chickpea curry
I am also about to post a beetroot, lentil and raisin stew which has moroccan style flavours. It is mild, fruity and sweet so may be of interest to your little one.

I know she is a bit of a persona non grata on here but Annabel Karmel's mulligatawny chicken recipe is like a mild curry. Can't find a link but can PM you the recipe if you want?

We all LOVE Annabel Karmel's chicken korma! DH says it's even better than takeaway??!!

It's on her website, but her whole recipe book is highly recommended by the Bullets household, yum!

You could very easily make the Hairy bikers coconut milk curry very mild - bit of korma paste, fry onion (blitz the onion with a little oil if you don't want lumps), fry off chicken or add shredded already cooked chicken (could do prawn, salmon, pork too), add some coconut milk and some tomatos and baby spinach (or butternut squash), thicken with a bit of cornflour then a good spoonful of mango chutney.
Its well tasty, and takes only a few minutes

Careful with the lentils if it's the first time they've had them.. DS was up all night fidgeting and breaking wind following his first experience, and the poo was terrible to behold..

We do a normal, veggie curry with whatever's in the house (and butternut squash if possible), but only add half the curry paste (Pataks whatever, and only the 2 chillis heat ones for DS). We get an extra chilli added to our bit to spice it up, and he gets it mixed in with his rice to cool it down a bit and we're all happy :)

I do chicken and cranberry which kids have been fine with.. It's a Delia recipe I think, really simple, chicken, an onion, curry powder, jar of wholeberry cranberry sauce, tom puree and splash of lemon juice..

Ooh, lots of good ideas here. Ladybird, the Moroccan sounds interesting too. Might wait until we can do lunch outdoors before I brave beet root though!

I just make a reguar curry with a mild curry powder - balti or tikka and DTs love it and I put creme fraiche or yogurt in their portions and more chilli in ours. I do the same when I make chilli con carne.

I buy the Organix curry paste pots for making DD's food. Fab!

We just cook normal mild or medium curries and then add plenty of yoghurt or sour cream for the DCs.

Second that Trazzletoes. Mine love curries and I adjust the amount of yoghurt for their vastly varying tastes (2yo likes them spicier than 11yo!)

Yep, I've cooked mild curries for them before - I think its the sweet, fruitiness of the mango one they really like and I don't tend to cook savoury and fruit together so was really looking for recipes on that combination.

Ha ha! I like it out in restaurants sometimes when cooked by people who know what they're doing, but am always scared I'll veer into Friends "beef good, custard good, banana good, what's not to like?!" myself

We do a regular korma and stir a bit of yoghurt in DDs.

Could you pop some mango chutney in a korma?

We make an aubergine curry with Patak's balti paste - soften some onion and aubergine, add curry paste, then stir in yogurt to make a creamy sauce, then add some mango chutney. Easy to make milder for littlies and really tasty.

The long-term never-fail favourite in our house of quite picky eaters is variations on BBC good Food chicken and sweet potato curry which I now do ad-hoc like this:

Fry onion, chicken, korma paste (I started with a teaspoon full but use near-adult proportions now). Add chopped sweet potato/carrots/potato. Add a few handfuls of red lentils. Add a tin of coconut milk. Simmer till done, (add some water/milk/stock if you think it's getting too thick). Season. Add two handfuls of frozen peas and cook a bit longertill peas are heated / done.

You could leave out the lentils to start and add a bit of floury potatoes to cook down and add a bit of thickness to the sauce.
We usually have it with Naan breads.

Ok, apparently lots of people put mango chutney in curry sauce. I feel left out for never knowing this!
