Baked bean layer in a cottage pie? Insanity or genius?

I've just noticed the back of the Colmans cottage pie sachet suggests a layer of baked beans between the meat and potato. Is this delicious or rank? I can't quite decide....

Ooh mashed carrot and swede. That does sound lovely.

Cauliflower cheese toppimg instead of mashed potato also sounds interesting.

No no no.

Baked beans should only ever be served on toast or in a jacket potato.

Definitely no sachets. Seasoning should be fresh herbs, bay leaf, worcester sauce.

However, sometimes I add red lentils to cottage pie to make it healthier and go further. This is allowed.

DH insists on baked beans in cottage pie but I mix them in. It's nice

Mine is like GetOrfs but I don't usually have enough red wine for a decent ammount of gravy so I to top it up with beef stock and it has to have a teaspoon of marmite in as well.
