Will The world end if I use fondant icing on a carrot cake?

I really want to make a carrot cake for DS's christening but I won't be able to write on the top in icing if its got creamcheese icing so can I use fondant? Will it taste odd? I'll put creamcheese as the filling.

Why not just put fondant on the top as a circle and then decorate the sides with cream cheese and toasted almonds?

At least then the cake won't be too sickly from the icing?

Novel idea for a Christening cake - I've never heard that before!

And no the world won't end but the cake definitely will - I love carrot cake but can take or leave a fruit cake.

Ooh thanks that's a good idea.

Do you think I should but the fondant disc on at the last minute so it doesn't absorb the moisture from the creamcheese or I am worrying over nothing.

Isn't it best to allow fondant to dry a little before you decorate?

I think I'd give it some time to do this.

Thanks I made it today.

I put a creamcheese filling on the inside and a thin smear all over the outside and covered the whole thing with fondant and its worked.

hopefully it won't taste vile

Hope you enjoyed it, and the Christening.

Thanks Wally that's kind of you.

Yes Christening and cake were both a success.
