Was just making poached eggs on toast, cracked two eggs into pan, fine. Went to crack a third one and it was all red like blood I looked in the shell and there's just a yolk surrounded by what looks like blood.
Has put me right off! Just having toast now.
They aren't out of date or anything.

The egg got fertilised, it isn't anything to worry about. I wouldn't have eaten it either though!

Yukky!

I haven't ever had this but since reading about it I do crack every egg with a feeling of trepidation.

KittenOfDoom · 02/04/2013 01:57

This is why I always break eggs separately into a dish, never straight into the pan/bowl/whatever.

Yes I think it means the egg may have been fertilised. I don't think it would do you any harm to eat it(?) but I probably wouldn't either. On the other hand, good to know you must be buying free range eggs for that to happen! (I'm guessing?) Smilehappy hens.

Yes always free range :)

Thanks for letting me know what it was.
It's never happened to me before and I've been cooking eggs for about 20 years.
