What easy dish can I cook to go with rice, apart from curry.

I don't like rice but DC do so I wanted to make an effort to serve it more often.

I can make curry & risotto but I need other ideas. Something with a sauce, perhaps?

Stew, chilli, any kind of pasta sauce, a big pile of raosted veg, roasted fish, anything really.

Fish and peas work well - a rice risotto style.

LeggoAcubunnyture · 31/03/2013 23:09

Chilli
Mushroom stroganoff
Chicken stroganoff
Kedgeree

ATouchOfStuffing · 31/03/2013 23:09

Oh and stroganoff :)

WeAreSix · 31/03/2013 23:09

Kedgeree is very easy... My DCs wolf it down.

Yardarm · 31/03/2013 23:10

Paprika chicken, simple stir fries, or do egg fried rice with prawns and peas.

PhyllisDoris · 31/03/2013 23:11

Tuna kedgeree is nice.
Also ratatouille goes well with rice.

SlowlyFallingApart · 31/03/2013 23:13

Lots of ideas, thank you.

I made kedgeree a few weeks ago & DC loved it. I'd forgotten about that. Stroganoff should be easy enough too, thank you.

Sweet and Sour

Rice balls, cook rice in stock, leave it to absorb the stock, add onions, peas etc and form into balls. Oven bake or fry, and serve with dips.

Timetoask · 01/04/2013 07:48

Chilli con carne with rice
Basically, make anything you would normally accompany with potato but instead leave the potato out and serve a portion of ice.

insanityscratching · 01/04/2013 07:51

Ribs are nice with rice or you could make sticky chicken drumsticks.

Artichook · 01/04/2013 07:54

Roasted veg are nice with rice
Jerk chicken
Lamb steaks and Greek salad
Meatballs

Meatballs in gravy

AnimatedDad · 01/04/2013 08:18

I'm doing more paella recently. Safron(or tumeric), paprika for smokiness, fish, prawns, squid and/or mussels.

It's a little like risotto to prepare but all the liquid goes in at the same time, you use a wider saucepan and you don't have to stir all the time.

Also, pilaff are good - parsley, preserved lemon, nuts and all kinds I'd other stuff, then cook with the top of the rice covered with butter wrappers.

mamij · 01/04/2013 10:19

You could serve almost any fish and vegetables with rice!

Or do fried rice.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/04/2013 12:00

Another vote for paella.
Peppers stuffed with flavoured rice.
When my dds were small they used to like rice with soy sauce and (frozen) soy beans (or even frozen peas) or fresh broccoli, plus omelette strips or cashews or tofu for protein.
Rice and peas
