Butternut Squash - Discuss

Tons of baby food recipes seem to contain 'butternut squash' - not something I would normally eat. So I bought some and roasted it - it is utterly devoid of any flavour.

Anyone know what you are supposed to do with it to help it to taste nice?

onlyjoking, I grew some last year - the plants are massive! I got a few squash and they were lovely.

Roast it with some cumin seeds and then add to a risotto with some grated parmesan. Yum yum!

Gorgeous stuff! Really Shock at 'devoid of flavour'!!! Roast (with skin) in loads of olive oil with garlic. Allow it to go quite crispy. Lovely.

no one answered my question, it must have been a dumb one Sad

No, not dumb, just, well, I'm not sure of the answer! I guess because you cook them, ripeness doesn't matter? Are there any veg that we cook, where ripeness matters? Tomatoes, I guess ...

Good point, I hadn't thought of that Blush

Me neither compo!

I do find them a bit of a mystery, they seem to last forever, at least, they take ages to go off.
