I have accidentally opened a tin of Carnation Caramel. What can I do with it?

I actually wanted the condensed milk but accidentally opened the caramel which has been in the cupboard for ages because I don't know what to do with it.

Now it's open what can I make that is pretty simple, and doesnt involved eggs or bananas? Recipe on tin is for banoffee pie which is no good. And DSs are allergic to eggs so can't make muffins etc.

Eat it with a spoon make the banoffee pie but with a different fruit or topping? Or chocolate if you want it to be really indulgent :)

A millionaire's shortbread type thing? Shortbread, caramel, chocolate on top. You could use crushed up shortbread/digestives mixed with butter for the base, rather than making it from scratch if you wanted.

Just grab a spoon and get stuck in!

Katisha · 14/03/2013 18:33

Thanks catlady - actually I was making millionaire's shortbread with the condensed milk when I got the tins wrong. Banoffee with a different fruit is an idea although I havent got enough cream atm Could get some tomorrow.

Definitely millionaire's shortbread!

I am jealous Envy

you got a spoon don't you?

TunipTheVegedude · 14/03/2013 18:34

toffee apple tart. The sharpness of the apple offsets the sweetness of the caramel, it's lovely.

crush a couple of digestive biscuits into a small glass, layer of caramel then sliced banana, more caramel then cream and banana.

I need it not to be banana - gives me raging indigestion!

passion fruit and ginger biscuits

Spread it on top of a crumpet and top with sliced strawberries. Alternatively Jamie Oliver's toffee apple pie sounds good. It's good with crepes - egg free ones or as a sauce with ice cream.

Here's the offerings from the BBC Dulce de leche

Spoon...

I would use it to make a tarte tatin type thing. well I wouldn't, I would be eating it now

runawaysimba · 14/03/2013 19:35

You can also freeze it if you don't want to use it straight away - it doesn't freeze solid, so you can scoop it out with a hot spoon as you need it. (It's even better than straight out of the tin).

Thanks all. I've had a go with the spoon but actually it's a Bit Much on its own for me! Crumpets might be a different matter though...

It's an awsome icing on choclate cake, also could do an apple caramel tart

Merguez · 17/03/2013 20:48

swirl through vanilla ice cream

ijustwant8hours · 19/03/2013 20:11
