Rubber band in oven will it melt or dry up?

Such a random question I know but tonight I am making torillia cases for chili and came up with the idea of wrapping them round up turned bowls with an elastic band around them to hold the shape. I'm probably MAD.. do you think they'd melt or dry up and drop off at 200 degrees for about 8 or 10 minutes?

I can't be bothered to faff with string but may need to if this is the world's worst idea!

I wouldn't do that. Use kitchen string instead...could use the elastic band to hold the tortilla in place while you tie it.

I think they'd dry up. I have no knowledge of these things though. I vote you do it purely to satisfy my curiosity as I'm interested now. You could do a pilot test first.

I once had the brilliant idea of holding up a bunch of asparagus with an elastic band and boiling them. It. is. not. a. good. idea. It tasted and smelt DISGUSTING.

You need silicon rubber bands - I got some in Lakeland a while back and they're fab.

I had thought of silicone and will probably buy some bands but need to do this tonight.. Think I'll string them but definately in the interet of science I'll band one and see how it goes! :)

So sorry to disappoint :( I upturned three bowls on a baking tray two were at corners and one in middle as they were all touching there was no need for string. The other three I used the up side down muffin tray method, not sure where I saw it maybe youtube or TV but it worked a treat and I'll be using this method in future.

So sorry I didn't need the rubber bands and as we'd only 6 wraps I didn't risk losing one when the above methods were working. I will leave this experiment up to someone else :)
