DH and I celebrate our first wedding aniversary in July and plan to ship the kids out to rellies and take ourselves down to the big smoke for the weekend. Both DH and I are fans of Giorgio (for totally different reasons ) and were thinking about making a reservation for dinner during our London trip. Has anyone been and is the food/atmosphere worth the money and the hype ?

PPH - just caught up with your post on the Celeb Crush thread, how do you know him then ? I am aware that he is, like me, a married parent, but a girl can dream..... Is he as charismatically sexy in real life as he appears on screen ? Cheers

WSM

So not one mumsnetter has been to 'Locanda Locatelli' ? Perhaps I'd better try and revive this thread tomorrow then.

Dh has been a lot.
He says YES. Food is very good, atmosphere is relaxed and calm. Mixture of leisure and expense account at lunch and dinner. He recommends chosing your food then grabing the sommellier who is excellent and will choose you the most suitable bottle if you just tell him what you are having and your price range. You will need to book now though, and be prepared to call a few times before getting through. And don't expect to see Giorgio himself

wsm - I don't know him, but my sister does! he is a client of hers and she hasn't mentioned his sexyness I must say...more the fiery italian temperaments of both him and his wife - she does like them both though.
locanda locatelli meant to be wonderful - has a michelin star I think - my sis loves it - but haven't been myself, now that I am a country mouse. may try and go there for lunch the week after next, I'm meeting a friend for lunch and we haven't thought of a venue yet...

WSM - where abouts in London is it? My sister lives just off Oxford Street, so if it's around there, chances are if she hasn't been, some of her pals must have.

Don't expect to see GL in the flesh, am fully aware that 'celebrity chefs' spend little time in their own establishments once they are up and running.

Excellent, will try and book the table v soon then. What about a nice hotel reasonably close ?

Yikke! he is the ugliest man in the world! I had to shut he window pdq he was so oliagenous

codswallop · 18/01/2004 19:25

shudder!

suzywong · 18/01/2004 19:26

He really is not a beauty
What is it about him that floats your boat VSM, apart from the sensuality of food?

suzywong · 18/01/2004 19:27

sorry WSM, or maybe VSM too, they could have a duel over him

WSM · 18/01/2004 19:28

Each to their own, I did say that he was my 'unlikely celeb crush'.. !

Carla, I know that Marble Arch is the nearest tube station to the restaurant. It is on Seymour St, near Portland Square. Sort of behind Oxford St.

I used to like Nick Nairn then saw hIm int he flesh - too bony

codswallop · 18/01/2004 19:29

here he looks like a dragqueen

WSM · 18/01/2004 19:30

That is really not a great pic of him Coddy ! I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it is about him. Perhaps his passion and enthusiasm, also find him quite brooding. He looks best when he is concentrating.

codswallop · 18/01/2004 19:32

OHo! "concentrating" hmmm
LOL

WSM · 18/01/2004 19:32

ROFL @ Nicks pic Coddy ! The Beeb really weren't kind to their celeb chefs when looking through the photo library, were they ?!

OP posts:
codswallop · 18/01/2004 19:33

he lloks like he could be on acorn antiques

WSM · 18/01/2004 19:37

I'm going to shut up about GL in anything other than a culinary sense before Coddy rips anymore chunks out of me !! Plus the fact that DH came in, read my opening post and wandered off sulking and muttering 'So I'm not charismatically sexy, then?'.

OP posts:
codswallop · 18/01/2004 19:39

all in jest wsm

I am chortling in here

WSM · 18/01/2004 19:40

WSM
I have just watch Giorgio cook pasta and pecorino and pancetta on TV and although he is quite grotesque I can't stop thinking about getting caught in his larder aftter hours
You are right there is definitely something about him.
Big hands.

I had a really nice meal at Locanda Locatelli. The atmosphere was a bit business dinner, but the food excellent.
