We will be having our usual Christmas Open House on Saturday and now I'm working I have little time for preparation. I was going to serve just mince pies and mulled wine / no alcoholic fruit punch along with a few fairy cakes for the children. Is that ok or simply too dull.... I didn't want to get into trying to provide a buffet ;)

Sounds lovely. What time are people coming? If over a mealtime, do you think they may be expecting more substantial food?

I might add pork pie and onion chutney into the mix if it were me, but that's probably because that's what I fancy for my lunch right now!

I have done a '2-5pm' thing and was trying to keep it fairly simple but I'm liking the pork pie idea :) Maybe I'll do a couple of savoury things for finger food along with the mince pies and cakes.

I'm liking your style Littlemissmulledwine and will store it for when I am a lady of leisure and can start planning these things in October!!!!

Just a big platter of cheese - with some biscuits/breads/chutneys/pickles and some grapes and dates. Then some sausage rolls and cheese straws.. Yum!

I'd do a massive bowl of cocktail sausages. Cook them yourself around 1pm, the ready cooked ones are vile IMO.

Maybe some crisps/nuts/popcorn.

At that time mulled wine and mince pie is fine. Ours is from 5 so I'm doing chilli and rice with nachos. Or roast gammon and bread rolls. Not really decided, but If I do that I am nicking the roast potato idea!
