Smoked Gammon Roasting Joint & a slow cooker

What can I do with it? I want to cook in my new slow cooker but have no idea what to put with the gammon joint. So recipes/ideas appreciated.

I got a fab tip on here. 500g brown sugar in the bottom. Turn it over after 4 hours. It was very yummy! So yummy we are having Gammon on Christmas lunch for the first time ever!

I literally just put it in the slow cooker with nothing else at all. It cooks perfectly and then I can use the gammon for loads of things without my fussy children moaning abut any funny flavours!

But doesn't the sugar burn and make it stick to the bottom of the pot?

I've done the bag of sugar thing a couple of times, it's divine.

I left it in the slow cooker for 11 hours last time, it was only a small joint. Our slow oven is part of the cooker though, only one setting and I think it's a very low heat.

You can't really leave it too long though, it's just lovely, the sugar infuses and gives it a beautiful flavour.

I will be doing to for Christmas too.

I'm trying this for the first time with my Boxing Day ham. Do you remove the fat layer first? I wouldn't if I was boiling it, I'd do it after, so I'm confused about this point. TIA

1.1kg joint and cooked for about 6hrs

I didn't cut anything off. I measured 500g brown sugar. 3/4 into slow cooker. Rest rubbed all into the joint and put in and left too cook. Was perfect. Smile

I did a 1.4kg smoked joint yesterday. I can't remember where I found the recipe but it was delicious!

Scored the joint and studded with cloves. Put in slow cooker and poured in enough apple juice so there was only about 5cm above the juice, packed brown sugar on the exposed meat, then a drizzle of honey on top of the sugar. Swirled a couple of spoons of cinnamon, a little nutmeg and some pepper into the juice and cooked on low for around 10 hours but i'm sure 8 would be fine.
Seriously, seriously good, still moist shudders - hate that word and scrummy today.

Thank you, am going to try that intothefure as I have all those ingredients! Do you stud he rind with cloves or do you have to take the rind and fat off? I could do that after cooking and stick it in the oven for 20 mins like my mil used to.

I'm doing ham in cola in the slow cooker for the first time this year. I have never used a slow cooker before. I have to glaze it and bring it to mums at 2.00pm.

Do I need to cook it overnight? It is just over 2kg.
Can you actually do this?

Sorry for late reply - I did it with the fat and rind on and cut off when cooked. Had the last of the leftover yesterday - was lovely still. Good luck & Merry Christmas!

My ham is in the slow cooker overnight Dione. It's huge, 2kg something and our slow cooker is a very low heat so it will be in all night. I'll get up in the morning and see to it.

I've done it a few times now, it's gorgeous.

After reading the above posts I've bought a nice joint of gammon to try in the slow cooker as it sounds so good cooked this way. It's quite big so don't think we'll get through it. Can it be frozen once cooked this way?

Yes, you can freeze it, I plan too. We have enough gammon to feed a small army!

Husband loved the gammon, slow-cooked with Fairtrade soft brown sugar. Brilliant result and would do it again and again. Just chucked in a couple of bay leaves and he was very enthusiastic about the result. Do try it!
