Surely you just need to make sure the suet is gluten free ?

BlueEyeshadow · 18/11/2012 22:32

Is this any good? Nigella's cranberry and port mincemeat - there's no suet in it.

TelephoneTree · 18/11/2012 22:34

Thank you both!
BE - thank you - have you tried this one - is it any good?
SG - oh yes - i suppose that's true, of course! does it taste any different do you think?

No not at all, that nigella one only keeps for two weeks in the fridge. You are in fact vvvvv organised Grin

BlueEyeshadow · 19/11/2012 07:45

I've made variations on the Nigella one and it's kept for ages, properly sealed.

I've always made GF free veggie mincemeat. I don't use any suet 'cos it's not nec. It's only so the stuff will come out of the jar. I just put a tabsp. or more if nec. of almond oil in it.

Also I put it on a very low heat to slowly cook it (it's a Delia recipe) and that stops it going off.Oh and I put a LOT more booze in it than she says Grin That also is for the keeping qualities of alcohol. It lasts forever really Grin

CMOTDibbler · 19/11/2012 09:21

I do the Delia one with butter instead of suet. I like the long, slow cook as it makes it really moist

ppeatfruit · 19/11/2012 09:24

Yes CMOT and it pasteurises it; a good idea.
