Ideas please. We have a houseful at ours for lunch on Sunday and I'm struggling for ideas? Needs to be something that is either cook ahead, can be left, or can be done very quickly? Currently dithering between lasagne or jacket potatoes but there must be something else?!

Soup? Maybe do a couple like chunky lentil and bacon or Scotch broth and a smooth one like pumpkin/tomato.
Nice bread/ cheese/ ham.
Maybe some pizzas.
Then dessert of fruit crumble/ice cream.

Casserole
Slow cook shoulder of pork - just season & chuck in oven for at least 3 hours (that's a James Martin instruction Grin). If you have one near, Morrisons was doing these ridiculously cheaply.

Pizza delivery?

I think I would do jackets and something like a meat curry, bean chilli, baked beans & grated cheese...covering all bases then...veggie, children etc, maybe garlic bread aswell.

Shepherds Pie - get some of those huge foil roasting dishes so you don't have to wash up :o

Make in advance, then 45 minutes (including preheating time) when you get in. Serve with fast veg like peas and sweetcorn.

Have nibbles and/or a cold starter ready for when you get home to keep people going out of your way

Boeuf bourginion with mash and French beans or chicken cacciatore with the same. Both can be cooked in advance and seem a bit more special than midday meal stuff.

Thanks guys. Went with the boeuf bourginion and chicken cacciatore with mash (but forgot to season the mash - grrr!)
