quick help please Topside of beef in slow cooker

ok, so liquid or not, brown or not AND

can I remove it and leave to cool - will it make for easier non fall apart in shreds carving?

AND

should I add anything for flavour? (paranoid will be dull) ASAP help please, got MIL coming for 2 days and need to get it on!! eeeekkkkk

Topside is good quality cut, not good for slow cooking. You'd be better roasting it.

agree with lightrain. if i were to slow cook it i would put into cooker and fill dish about half full with wine, or stock, or beer. add herbs, maybe a teaspoon of mustard - dijjon, or less if english, and add things like mushrooms, onions, carrots if i had them. then towards the end add some cornflour mixed with cold water or beef gravy granules to thicken

i don't bother browning anything for slow cooker

husband does carving - he seems ok with doing it whilst its hot

I slow cook brisket not topside and I just bung it in with mushrooms and onions, i have browned before putting it in but discovered there is no difference if you dont brown, I dont add liquid either, by the time its finished cooking there is enough liquid to add gravy granuales to thicken to make a mushroom and onion gravy.

I have cooked topside in the slow cooker. I brown in first with some dried herbs and lots of black pepper. I put it in the slow cooker on chunks of carrot and halved onions. No liquid at all neecded.

It doesn't carve easily when hot but it comes out so juicy and tender.

Last time I did topside (we usually buy brisket so am ok with that one!) I did it in my dodgy fan oven and no juices left at all grrrrr, maybe use my other oven then.........tveg to need to leg it to grrnegrocers for some veg to sit it on?

I gave up on roasting beef in the oven once I tried the slow cooker. I could never get it right in the oven and I was disappointed as it is my favourite roast dinner.

With the slow cooker it never dries out. I suppose it depends on how you like your meat cooked.
