the local supermarket only sells the latter, so it's either make do, or schlep over to Big Sainsburys.

I actually prefer to make paella with normal long grain rice. I find all the short grain rices a bit too gloopy, unless for proper risotto or rice pudding.

I actually do use arborio rice and it's fine.

What are you trying to make? Risotto? I'm assuming as you say they sell the latter that you can get paella but not arborio?

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 22/10/2012 14:46

argh - meant the former Grin

i prefer the slightly softer, denser texture of paella rice rather than long grain in paella, but wasn't sure if arborio would make it too creamy/stodgy?

I would use risotto rice to make a paella.

Not sure if I would use paella rice to make a risotto.

I use paella rice from Spain (PIL bring it over) for risotto, I'm a bigger fan of risotto than paella though. I have never tried to make paella from arborio rice so I'm no help really, and I would use the real thing if I was to make it.
