stencilling on fondant with lustre dust

Any tips for stencilling with lustre dust on fondant? I had a go for the first time on some cupcakes this evening and it wasn't that great. I used a smear of trex but the dust still went everywhere and the outlines were not v precise. I covered up the mistakes with some sugar flowers but I would like to know how to get it right for next time

It looks as though I did it the right way but I need a better brush for stippling and more practice to get the detail edges more crisply defined.

there is a brilliant Japanese demo somewhere, I just can't remember what it is called.
