Creamy cabbage lovers, how do you make yours?

I made a huge pan of it yesterday. I boil finely shredded white cabbage for 7 to 8 minutes, make bechamel sauce and add creme fraiche at the end. Then I mix cabbage with sauce, put into a dish and bake in the oven along with whatever else is in there. Or just eat without baking. Another way is using some evaporated cream instead of bechamel. I season too and if not using evaporated cream I add a pinch of sugar.

We had it with dinner last night and tonight too. I think I could eat it every day Grin

Haha, nice one Grin
It sound nice, might have a go, I've got cabbage, creme fraiche. Bechamel is just white sauce, non? Are you allowed to put cheese on top before going in oven? On the creamy cabbage, obv, not oneself...

CuriousMama · 07/09/2012 23:34

Oh yes cheese is a bonus.

And yes white sauce, butter flour and milk with the cream/fraiche added at the end. I sometimes add paprika/mustard or both.

How much creme fraiche to bechamel?

All sounds very curious, not convinced myself Grin

Sossiges · 07/09/2012 23:40

Good, will try it and report back. Hahahaha at "cheese is a bonus" - cheese is essential [yum]
Thanks

BackforGood · 07/09/2012 23:42

Never tried it, but it sounds nice. Smile

CuriousMama · 07/09/2012 23:43

Just add to taste. Tbh evaporated cream is better if you can get it easily.

If you like cabbage then it's for you.

This version says boil the cabbage for 30 minutes Confused Sounds nice but I wouldn't cook the cabbage that long myself.

oooh sounds yum. i go for the french way-just add tons of butter.
melt butter in a pan, add a grated white cabbage, add a bit of nutmeg, close lid, let it boil/steam away merrily to itself in buttery goodness. mmm. i like it al dente too, with a bit of crunch. so i can kidd myself it's healthy!
OR I steam it then mix it in with homemade applesauce (grated apple+bit of water), tastes a bit like a sweet sauerkraut. perfect with saussages+mash or really boring cheap meat

Great ideas waffling. Cabbage 3 days in a row wouldn't be so wrong would it? Wink
