Do you leave the slow cooker on when you're out?

I've never had the nerve...just put a lentil soup in, we're going out in 2 hours and ideally want it in 4 hours so I either need to leave it on for the 2 hours we're going to be out or it'll be raw...it's been on high for 30 mins and the slab of butter I put right at the bottom still hasn't melted so it isn't exactly hot but I do worry about a thick soup drying out and possibly burning.

God yes.

We went out and left the sausage casserole. All was fine.

addictedisback · 28/08/2012 07:56

I've never thought about it before, I've always just done it.

Er yes - isn't that the whole point ? Smile

Catsmamma · 28/08/2012 07:59

of course, it's a bit hopeless otherwise.

GobblersKnob · 28/08/2012 07:59

Of course, as TPB says that is why you have a slow cooker Smile

Yes, always, that's the beauty of a slow cooker! Bung in ingredients in the morning, delicious meal when you get home in the evening. I've never had anything burn in mine. Have you made the soup in there before? If so, trust the recipe will work again and go off out worry free!

For another time you can buy a plug in timer to get it to start later if you don't want it on all day (like your soup).

OneOfMyTurnsComingOn · 28/08/2012 08:01

As said above, that's why it exists in our house. We leave it on all day.

tittytittyhanghang · 28/08/2012 08:02

All the time, isn't that the whole point of the things?

chezchaos · 28/08/2012 09:13

Haven't made this recipe in the sc before but I'm taking the plunge! Thanks for all the replies

Have you seen that Schwarz (?) are now selling slow coooker ready made mix? I saw them in Tescos the other day.

TunaPastaBake · 28/08/2012 10:43

We have thought about taking our slow cooker camping with us ( we now go for electric hook up Grin). I know of people who do... out all day and come back to food made.

GobblersKnob · 28/08/2012 11:23

Oh my god TPB, that is such a good idea.
