Paul Hollywood's sourdough starter - anyone tried it?

I've had various disastrous attempts over the years to make a sourdough starter. I was leafing through PH's book when I was in waterstone's yesterday, and he had a recipe using an apple.

I didn't buy the book, because my kitchen bookshelves are quite literally full of cookbooks, and I had decided on a one-in, one-out rule to stop them taking over the house.

However, if someone here tells me that his starter works, and all the recipes in his book are guaranteed to produce delicious results, I may reconsider.

So, has anyone attempted it?

Nope. I had such sucess with Dan Lepards starter. Took a few days but worked.

Was it from his Short and Sweet book? I might give that a go instead...

Possibly, but my book is exceptional breads I'm sure some of his books overlap. Found them straightforward in a long kind of way.

Recently got 'Nigel' started - its the sour dough starter from the Fabulous Baker Boys - after sniffing their 'monster' recently took on the challenge. First loaf was sort of OK - but think it just needs to mature - 2nd loaf planned for this weekend.

Also got the PH book too as some good recipes there and how to do an 8 loaf plait!!
