Will the fussiness end and what is the cause?

my 3yo DS will only eat pasta & pesto, fish fingers and baked potato and cheese. He has yoghurt or egg on toast for breakfast. This probably sounds OK but he won't eat most staples such as rice, meat, fruit, veg, sauces of any kind, or even beans on toast. When i mention mealtimes I seem to spark tears, tantrums or general moaning. Also I know he can use a fork, but he won't use one. DH stokes food into him like a baby , despite my thoughts that this is preventing him from progressing.

DH and I love food and eat a wide variety of it, with gusto. I never thought my son would be a food-phobe. What have we done wrong, and what can we do to encourage him to try other things?

The cause is that he's a kid, the duration will be as long as it lasts! We also eat all kinds of food and have a 6 year old with a limited diet which we are gradually expanding although it's hard work. Your husband has to stop with the feeding. Put the meal down, provide suitable cutlery. Afte a suitable period, remove the food. Provide nothing else till the next meal. Don't talk about food, just keep providing it and leave it to him. No child has ever been known to starve themselves to death. Once he knows you're serious, he'll have to follow. He will be hungry, foul tempered and generally vile for a bit but so be it. It's usually a control issue so take back control!

Sounds like a plan DrSeuss. Only what you've made me realised is that it's not my poor son- I'm struggling to train DH to support me in all of those things you've mentioned! He was an indulged child child himself and despite my reasoning it goes in one ear and out the other and who does the cooking that goes to waste? not him- sigh.

I guess I can't do this without being a bossy nag!
