Pizza Express portions: is this how they claw back the cost of promotions?

A week or so ago we ate in a central London PE and were rather disgruntled to find the toppings on our pizzas to be much less generous than we've had in the past (even less cheese than usual, a meagre scattering of capers, etc.)

Today we went to another branch and asked for the waiter to make sure we had a reasonable serving and the waiter whispered that management has cracked down on the cost of toppings. All have to be weighted or counted out and we're not the only ones to have complained.

Now I appreciate they have to make a decent profit, but this is putting me off going back. Has anyone else had a similar experience? What would you do?

Not specifically pizza express but I have noticed this in loads of places.

I'm pretty certain the sour cream in the Harvester had actually been slightly watered down last time I went. Boak.

It is really frustrating paying the same (or more as prices go up) when you know you aren't getting the same.

Oh I know what you mean about watering down. The last Nando's marinade we bought was much more watery than normal.

I used to love their chicken salad, but the amount of chicken is now laughable, and probably would fail the trades description act. I complained and was also told that they were told exactly how much they were allowed to put in. I just stopped going, their lose.
