Does this sound ok? I have cream and egg white to use up so I thought pavlova, but only have those fruits and cannot be arsed to go out and buy more.

Err, would have to say no, sorry. Possibly banana but dairy and citrus really don't mix IMO.

Sossiges · 26/07/2012 14:32

No, sorry. Banana a bit meh and I think orange would curdle the cream

I think you are right. I will do a toffee meringue, plop banana on the top and then a dollop of caramel ice cream sauce. Classy.

Now that does sound nice! [yum]

We always have tinned oranges on pavlova Hmm

But the banana toffee combo sounds lovely!!

Sleepwhenidie · 26/07/2012 15:53

Toffee and banana sounds yummo (as dd would sayGrin).

Goddess I guess tinned oranges sweeter and less acidic than fresh so probably work better with cream?

Make butterscotsch sauce as this is amazing with banana: equal parts cream, butter and dark brown sugar. Warm thorough to melt things. Totally lovely with banana and meringues and keep the oranges for next time.

Hello, thanks everyone for your input and ideas. I made a lovely toffee meringue and stirred caramel sauce through whipped cream, topped with banana then finished with an extra squirt of caramel sauce. Roseformeplease that butterscotch sounds delicious and I'd have made it if I'd had the time. Next time I will.

I will try tinned orange pavlova next week!

Ooh ooh! Perfect timing.

Did you use cornflower? Vinegar?

I am making a pav today for only second time ever and don't have either cornflower or White vinegar. Delia's recipe doesn't use either but every other recipe I found does.

Was about to start a pavlova help thread.

Your final combo sounds yum by the way!

LeonardoAcropolis · 27/07/2012 12:41

Yes, used half teaspoon of each (2 egg white mixture). There was a topic in Chat two days ago discussing it which was helpful, here

Thanks Leonardo. Followed tips on that thread and turned out great.
