CountessDracula · 06/03/2006 13:32

I don't use chopped tomatoes in bolgnese

Do you have passata or fresh tomatoes or tomato puree I take it not

Freckle · 06/03/2006 13:33

Any passata? Any fresh tomatoes you can chop? No nearby shops? Tomato puree?

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 13:33

Do you have:

  • fresh tomatoes?
  • tomato puree?
FrayedKnot · 06/03/2006 13:34

If you've got a can of baked beans, you could turn it into shepherds pie.

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 13:34

Or make the mice, onion and garlic into meatballs, and then make an olive oil type dressing for the pasta. And sprinkle with grated cheese.

MerlinsBeard · 06/03/2006 13:36

wow these are quick replies! thank yoU!

sparkler i thought of ketchup but i use that at the end anyway lol!

Got tomato puree but no fresh tomatoes, i don't even know what passata is!

Can['t get to shop as both my boys r asleep and i will have to wake them to go out in a short while and we won't b back then til tea time

ARGH!

So shall i just squeeze a load of tomato puree in then?

I am NOT a cook at all!

hmmm hula - mice meatballs - sounds scrummy........ Wink

Enid · 06/03/2006 13:37

cook the tomato puree first with the onions garlic and beef for a few mins

a big dessertspoonful

and then use stock and a tiny bit of milk (takes away bitterness of tom puree)

CountessDracula · 06/03/2006 13:37

add a tsp of flour and stir in, cook for a few minutes then add tomato puree and stock

MerlinsBeard · 06/03/2006 13:38

ooh meatballs, theres an idea

OP posts:
Hulababy · 06/03/2006 13:38

And cream or creme fraiche too?

Add that to the tomato puree and it'll make a creamy sauce and make the puree go longer and the flavour not too intense.

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 13:38

lol @ mice; did mean MINCE!!!

MerlinsBeard · 06/03/2006 13:39

can't add cream or milk, makes DP ill

OP posts:
Enid · 06/03/2006 13:39

leave it out then

do it my way or cds way

both good

Carmenere · 06/03/2006 13:40

Tomato puree and stock will work fine - too late to make meatballs I would think

MerlinsBeard · 06/03/2006 13:41

ok, am going to experiment [worried face icon]

Thank you for hasty replies x

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 15:14

Why too late for meatballs?

I often do mine last thing. Not something I plan ahead with TBH.

CountessDracula · 06/03/2006 15:17

hula, mom had already cooked the meat, onions and garlic

yomellamoHelly · 06/03/2006 15:19

HOw about just adding any veg you have lying around and putting mash on top for shepherd's pie?

yomellamoHelly · 06/03/2006 15:19

Or adding breadcrumbs and making into burgers and serving with chips?

Hulababy · 06/03/2006 15:50

Ah, missed that bit.

MerlinsBeard · 06/03/2006 19:40

Tahnks for help earlier. :)

Couldn't turn it into shepherds pie, got no potatoes (can u tell i haven't shopped yet loL!)

Turned out fine, just missed out chopped tomatoes and put a bit of ketchuip in at the end. Used a bit extra tomatoe puree too.

Thank you for suggestions, it tasted scrummy :)

DP now thinks i am Delia but had to come clean and tell him it was mumsnet lol!
