Crockpot falafel- am I the only person on the internet who can't get them to work?

I've heard a lot about making slow-cooker falafel, both here and on other sites.

In every discussion I've read about them, people say "wow- I didn't think this would work, but I followed the recipe and they are golden and crisp all over". That wasn't my experience. I drizzled oil over each falafel, put them in one layer in the crock pot and cooked them according to the instructions and they wound up black on the underside and pale and soggy on top. Bleaurgh.

When I cooked the same recipe either inthe oven or in a pan on the stove, they came out beautifully. It's a gorgeous recipe.

BUT I WANT TO MAKE THEM IN THE SLOW COOKER! Did anyone else have problems with them or do you have any hints or tips? Thank you!

Why do you want to make them in the slow cooker? They're middle-eastern fast-food designed to be quick cook. Slow-cookers are far better for stews and other long-winded stuff.

Can't see why you want to cook them in the slow cooker either. It takes a very short time to bake them. 10-15min perhaps?

Well yes, but it sounded convenient, lower fat and tasty. The (dozens of) rave reviews say they come out tasting as nice as the fried versions and nicer than doing them in the oven. I now have my doubts!

Also, i was curious. Am a bit of a slow cooker non-believer, and it would have been good to find something the dratted thing is good for, other than stew.

Thank you- sorry about the delay in my response!
