Finally decided been bullied into havin a party for my 30th. We will be having it at home. It will be hollywood themed with maximum 40 people coming (adults and children).
Every time we have a party-we have quite a few. I do the catering. I wouldn't say I enjoy it (I get very stressy) but I love the actual party and people complimenting the food.
Anyhow (I know I am waffling) husbad insists he wants to do food for party. He ca cook- actually quite well- but it is the presetation that worries me, and I think our ideas of party food are different.
So Ithought if I had a list of suitable finger buffet foods (mostly savoury) I could use them as advice :) for him.
Please share with me your "grown up but simple" party food recipes/suggestions. (and how much you think we would need for 40 people!)
Thank you so much.

Um, this worked well for us.
Blanch fine asparagus. Wrap a couple of stalks in 2cm wide 'raclette-type' cheese (the kind you use in a fondue that's semi melty and soft already) and prociutto ham. You can put a toothpick through to make sure the bundle stays together. Put in oven for as long as the cheese melts a little.

Serve these little bunches of asparagus on rocket leaves and with a scattering of dried cranberries (because it looks pretty). It's really simple and looks like you made a massive effort.

am planning a party too, but am hiring a room so we can seat everyone so will be doing a fork buffet/cold meats/salads etc rather than finger food .... Agree though that presentation makes all the difference and make simple food look more special and appetising...

I've been googling outside caterers to see what they do - for ideas about what to serve and also re presentation (and to prove how much money I'll be saving by doing it myself!)link to an example

I think I searched using party buffet platters. Hope that helps
