Are you living in complete ignorance of the fish counter oven bags?

This time last week I was. I pity myself a week ago.

Fish counter woman put me right though.

Choose fish.

Chose marinade.

All goes in special oven bag and is sealed with the hot rod.

Bag goes in trolley.

Bag goes in car.

Bag goes in fridge.

Bag goes in oven.

Eat nice fish.

Bag goes in bin.

Genius. Utter brilliance on the fish counter folk's part.

This is now my new favourite thing in the supermarket.

I tried the ones from the freezer section like this and it wasn't very nice.

Which supermarket?

Slubberdegullion · 04/07/2012 17:25

Sainsbury's.

I believe Twatrose does the same and Asda too.

I've tried the Asda ones. Nice, but I prefer to do my own as it's cheaper!

Chinateacup · 04/07/2012 23:51

I was a bit afraid of the apparent ease of it all so just went for a regular bag to foil up at home. Shan't be so cautious next time!

GetOrfMoiiLand · 04/07/2012 23:52

I am all excited about the hot rod

Tell me more about that bit.

snice · 04/07/2012 23:58

they are WONDERFUL
I used to pretend to DP that Sainsburys didnt sell sardines as I couldn't face the stink of grilling them before I discovered marinade plus oven bags

snice · 04/07/2012 23:59

the only problem is sometimes they don't seal them properly first time and they leak in your trolley-check the bag over and get them to re hot rod it

GetOrfMoiiLand · 05/07/2012 00:00

You have to say Hot Rod in an american movie trailer voice over voice.

Cheddars · 05/07/2012 00:03

Ooooh!

So, do you have to actually say 'can you hot rod my fish please?' Perhaps a wink would do?

GetOrfMoiiLand · 05/07/2012 00:03

And an Elvis leer.

Cheddars · 05/07/2012 00:04

Maybe ask in a breathy Marilyn Monroe voice.

nappyaddict · 06/07/2012 13:10

Sainsbury's and Morrisons are nice. Asda not so much.

loveroflife · 06/07/2012 13:35

something else this site has now taught me

TroLoLoLo · 06/07/2012 14:04

Waitrose do this too, very nice and easy.

loveroflife · 06/07/2012 14:11

don't think you can order it online though can you?

Slubberdegullion · 06/07/2012 14:59

I have yet to ask for the hot rod action as they do it automatically but yes, it is indeed most pleasing especially when they hand you the miracle oven bag and it is slightly warm at one end.

Yesterday in the sad tragedy of small pleasures that my life has become I cooked my lemon and herb marinaded salmon whilst doing something else in the oven. Allowed it to cool and then stuck it back in the fridge. Today I mixed up the fish with cream cheese and pesto and stuck it with some pasta and it was BLOODY GORGEOUS. And the stinky multi versatile bag went outside in the bin.
It made me happy.
