Foodies please help - starters and side dishes for lamb tagine

I am having friends for dinner in a few weeks, and was thinking of doing lamb tagine as a main. Was going to do dips/antipasti/olives/pitta bread for starters - but can anyone think of anything else that is interesting and would kind of fit in as a starter before the main course? Also, what could accompany the lamb tagine, other than couscous? thanks so much!!

This served warm would go well with the tagine and couscous.

Stuffed vine leaves would be nice with the starter. And something like this

Please find attached our recipe for Lamb Tagine which is a real winner. The dates add a real depth to the sauce. Serve with pine nut couscous and pomegranate seed.

Prepare the cous cous for five minutes until it is light and fluffy add a tiny bit more stock if you need it.

1 1/2 cup couscous
2 cups of chicken stock.
1/4 teaspoon salt

Once you have this base
; - stir in a handful of chopped mint.

  • and a handful of chopped pinenuts.
  • a handful of chopped parsley
  • and the juice of a lemon.

Garnish the entire dish once served with pomegranate seeds.

Amazing :-)

Have a look at Ottolenghi's recipes in the guardian - they often have a Middle Eastern slant and they are impressive enough to serve at a dinner for friends.
