Can someone give me an idiot's guide to pancakes please?

I haven't the foggiest, I've never really done pancake day but ds has a friend coming to tea and I feel I ought. I have 2 lemons and I think I've got sugar, what else can go on them? And I need an idiot's guide to making them please, TIA!

dp uses 4 oz flour, 1/2 pint milk and an egg. whisk and leave in fridge for 1/2 hour if poss. Use a very hot pan with a miniscule amount of oil and dont put too much batter in. Spread the batter out as thin as poss and generally the first one doesnt come out very well but they get better as you make more.

I oth use 3 handfulls oats soaked in milk and egg and tsp sugar fro 15 mins then add 2 handfulls sr flour. Mix and use straight away to make small thick scotch pancakes. very hot pan needed also.
