Thinking of attempting to do tapas for 8 for a dinner party (includes one vegetarian)

Is this a silly idea? Would I be making too much work for myself?

I think it is a good and different idea for a dinner party, however you will need to make quite a few different dishes (therefore creating a lot more work for you) and you need to consider if it's practical given oven/hob space.

That is something I would love to do too, but like Gatorade said it can be a lot of work. This might be a good website and also there was a Come Dine With Me episode where one of the ladies cooked tapas.

The good thing about tapas is you can do a mixture of hot and cold things, so you can make some stuff in advance, eg Spanish omelette. Also things you just buy in, like nice olives or 'nice ham' (not for the vegetarian, obviously...).

no coz you can do loads in advance. Jamie Oliver has a nice set of tapas dishes in his 30 min meals book (I cheated though and made a fair few of them in advance so I had hardly anything to do just before serving). Absolutely delicious. I would do manchego cheese drizzled with posh honey, spanish omelette (nice cold so can do ahead), a cured meat platter, garlic and chilli prawns (takes less than 5 mins), olives, posh bread and the baked peppers from the Jamie Oliver book (again prepare ahead and pop in the oven when guests arrive). Patatas braves is so tasty and can also be prepared ahead.

OOOOOHHHH

this all sounds so yummy. Can I come too? I'm also a veggie Grin

remember to add lots of nice bread, this may help cut down on some of the 'cooking'. jars of white asparagus, peppers stuffed with cream cheese, marinated artichokes, fried green asparagus with parmesan shavings, marinated anchovies.

you should be able to cook most things ahead of time and reheat in the microwave

Sounds expensive delicious.

Our Morrisons has a self serve counter with anchovies, fetas, peppers, olives etc. You could do a big tub of these and spread them out in dishes with nice bread with oil & balsamic dip.

My favourite would be prawns in their shell, so easy to do and very scrummy.

Garlic prawns with bread to mop up the garlic butter!
