do you think there's any chance it'll be ok to start cooking at 3pm tomorrow?

I forgot to get the sodding thing out this morning before I went out Angry and I really don't want to have to brave bastard tesco again this weekend to buy a fresh one.

Yes of course.

Put it on something metal - a baking tray or the draining board and it will defrost faster.

Catsmamma · 16/06/2012 17:12

yes, unwrap it, undo the elastic round the legs and put it in a roasting tin in the microwave over night....it'll be fine.

Pascha · 16/06/2012 17:15

Metal? REALLY? Why have I reached 35 without ever knowing that little nugget of information?!

Thanks Ali and Cat, Am undoing the bird and digging out the roasting tin as we speak. I have no microwave though, it can live in the oven overnight.

wouldnt leave out of fridge overnight though :/ that would be almost 24 hrs out of the fridge before cooking! a hive of bacteria.

just put in fridge, will be fine by tomorrow. take out at 12 midday tomorrow if you still think it needs longer if particularly large.

we store all food in the freezer and take food out every am, is always thawed my dinner

Hmm you are probably right forever. I would normally leave it in the fridge for at least 24 hours but its a bit short timewise. I think I will leave it in the fridge overnight and get it out in the morning.

I'd def leave it out overnight, if it is defrosted by morning then you can pop it into the fridge

If you do it the other way round it will still be solid by morning and no way of having it properly defrosted in time.

Aaaaggghhh!

Right. Its in the oven to stop the cats getting to it for now.

I agree with catsmamma

The oven will be fine. As long as your DH/DP/DC don't turn it onSmile

Pascha · 16/06/2012 17:34

No chance of that one Wink. Its saturday. Its takeaway night. The oven isn't getting a look in.

Of course it will be.

You can however cook a chicken from frozen, erm, I'm told Blush, just need to leave it in a lot longer than normal on lower temperature. I find 140-150C for 4 hours is capital. Makes the chicken fall off the bone.
