Or what will you have if not yet had dinner.

I think that I might have done it!

Will have had:

  • a clementine
  • swede (in the mash)
  • carrots
  • mixed roasted evg (must be at least 1-2 portions)
  • mushrooms
  • an apple

DD will definitely make it too, although she is the one here who normally has no rpoblem doing so.

banana at brekkie
bowl of fruit for 'dessert' w/lunch
glass of OJ
about to have roasted veg - carrots and swede
will have a baked apple for dessert

so have done it! BUT, have also make chocoate cupcakes whilst DD1 was down for her nap .

I'm making a real effort to do this atm. I've managed it pretty well for someone who doesn't like veggies too much!
1 banana with breakfast
2 glasses fresh juice (2 apples, 2 pears, 2 oranges, 2 carrots)
Having a stir fry for dinner which will have loads of veggies in, hopefully 2 portions!

Without the effort, I normally manage about 2-3 portions a day - shocking! I am noticing my skin looks quite good lately... Maybe fruit and veg are good for you after all !!

expat - not counting the naughty stuff I have had to balance it all out. LOL!

I have no problem getting 5 a day - today I've had a banana with breakfast, salad with a sandwich at lunch, an apple and some grapes, and I'll have carrots and mange tout with my tea - which tonight will be veg risotto so will have even more veggies in it.

My dd has had an apple (at school), a banana and some raisins, and with her tea she had some raw mushrooms and carrots.

Dh is the one in this house who needs nagging; he doesn't eat fruit (despite the fact there's always at least five kinds of fruit in the house) and he eats crap for lunch. He'll have the carrots and mange tout with his tea as well but it's nowhere near as much as he should have.

Lipstickmum ... I hate to tell you this but you can only count fruit juice as one portion of fruit, no matter how much you have, because you need the fibre from the fruit as well as the juice ...

Bloody hell

foxinsocks · 22/02/2006 18:22

I haven't managed 5 today (but normally do) but feel I deserve extra points because I've managed to eat so much of one animal in 24 hours (had sausages last night, ham for lunch and pork chops for dinner)

LipstickMum · 22/02/2006 18:23

..Actually I did have half a red pepper at lunch today, thank god!

paolosgirl · 22/02/2006 18:52

I had a banana for breakfast, then a plum, apple and another banana at lunch, then peas and carrots at dinner.

Also ate crap, so am not so virtuous.

FrayedKnot · 22/02/2006 18:57

Does ketchup count? have always wanted to ask that on one of these threads

DS eats lots of fruit but not many veggies. DH also eats more fruit than me. I always try to include at least 2 veg with supper (either in it or as accompaniments).

But I sometimes don't have anything else but the supper veg. I am so bad at this. We have lots of fruit in the house and I like fruit & veg but I always end up not having enough.

And you know in France they have 10 a day, not 5, b/c everyone eats at least 5, supposedly.

NannyL · 22/02/2006 19:00

Today i have had

sweetcorn tomatoes and cucumber at lunch time
Fruit salad with custard for pudding
a drink of applejuice
a satsuma as a snack
brocolli and courgette for tea (which was bolognese with onion carrot and tomatoe in!)

also had lots of pasta, a cup of tea, 2 cookies, and a slice of chocolale cake and shreddies for breakfast and lots of water

so looks like ive had at least 8 today.... which is about normal for me.

Me (and my charges) easily eat 5 fruit / veg per day!

iota · 22/02/2006 19:01

well so far I've had some grapes and blueberries, but for dinner tonight I will be having apple in my pork and apple casserole and roasted fennel with some sort of green veg accompaninment

nutcracker · 22/02/2006 19:24

I haven't managed even one portion today and awfully neither have the kids i don't think.

Things need to change i think.

myturn · 22/02/2006 19:35

Yes. Have had, 1 banana, 1 clementine, 1 lemon, red and green peppers, beansprouts, carrots, onion, mushrooms, sweetcorn, cabbage. Kids had the same except for the lemon.

We had a stirfry with most of the above veg, with homemade chickpea burgers with sunflower seads and quinoa. The girls fortunately love fruit and veg so there is never any problem having 5 a day.

myturn · 22/02/2006 19:35

Oops, seeds!

Beetroot · 22/02/2006 19:36

carrot, celery, onion, potato and parsnip

Beetroot · 22/02/2006 19:36

DumbledoresGirl · 22/02/2006 20:17

Half an apple and some baked beans for me. Nope, not gonna do it.

Feistybird · 22/02/2006 20:39

All in all not up to it I don't think (but yesterday, surpassed the 5 easily)

crazydazy · 22/02/2006 20:43
