I'm running out of ideas for DS (6). He prefers hot food but I can't think of much beyond boiled egg & soldiers (won't eat scrambled egg).

He sometimes eats waffles with berries on top or croissants or porridge. Is there anything obvious I'm missing?

Thanks Antidote - I live in the west country but am not from these parts, hence the name Grin

How do you do your rice pudding in the slow cooker? Mine is either swimming in milk or so solid I can cut it with a knife!

MrsMicawber - I'll google a recipe. They sound good.

I'm a displaced west county lass on temporary secondment to London for the past um 10 years, but plotting a return.

I have a rather posh slow cooker with a special rice setting Blush. That seems to work well on the timer, so it isn't cooking all night.

DD likes poached egg.

Does he eat bacon butties?

Smoothie? Yogurt and museli? Crumpets or the bread type muffins?

Pigs in Blankets (i.e. sausage with streaky bacon wrapped round) might be quite fun?

BettyBathroom · 16/05/2012 16:22

Ds doesn't like processed cereal but he does like porridge and Granola

Bakerbelle · 17/05/2012 20:28

Geranium3 · 17/05/2012 20:41

Potato cakes with left over mash. Nice and hot, but quick!

I made eggy bread this morning but using crumpets (Jamie at Home, I think) - twas very nice. DD2 likes Warburtons potato cakes, toasted with butter and a smear of bovril.

My mum, bless her, gave us a hot breakfast every day through primary school:

  • Eggy bread and pancakes (fat American style ones) freeze really well, so you can do a big batch and just thaw the night before and reheat.
  • Ditto savoury muffins
  • Potato rostis - cook and grate the potato then freeze, thaw overnight then fry in the morning
  • Anything on toast (cheese, fried egg, spaghetti, b beans, sardines, savoury mince).
  • Sausages or tiny lamb chops also great.
  • Quesedillas means you can bung anything between two tortillas with some cheese.

Grilled tomato?

Cut a fresh tomato in half, a bit of salt and pepper on top + a bit of olive oil, then put under grill.

Mushrooms (e.g sliced and slowly fried in butter) on toast?
