Has marmite changed?

I'm the only person in our house that likes marmite, so a pot lasts a long time. I can't remember when I bought the jar I just finIshed, but the marmite in my new jar is just not the same. It's more runny, and not nearly as marmitey. I had to put quite a lot on my toast, where I would usually just put a scraping.
Has anyone else noticed this change?

I had this exact conversation at work the other day, it is deffo 'weaker' and runnier. I seem to have to put lots more on the toast to get the right taste. They have dumbed down Marmite!

Good idea Queenofcake. I'm going to write and ask them. Bet it's a marketing/sales thing. I am using a lot more on a piece of toast than I used to, so a jar is not going to last as long, therefore I buy more. Simples!
Will let you know if/how they reply.
Who else will write in?

I had a close look at my marmite today. It is definitely milder and less thick. It almost looks like it has tiny bubbles in it, as if it has been whipped up to add air to it.

I'm worried now, I bought a new jar today. Shock

Queenofcake · 13/05/2012 00:29

Have emailed them and am now waiting for reply.

Well, I had a reply. They wanted to know batch number, and where I'd bought the jar I was complaining about.
I replied to say it isn't a specific complaint. More an enquiry as to whether the recipe or manufacturing process has changed.
Awaiting update...

My jar seems ok, but maybe a bit lighter in colour, that might be because I was looking for it though. Hmm

I was going to do a taste test with the last scrapings of my old jar, but dh washed it up for recycling. Shock

I am still waiting for a reply from marmite! Drums fingers on table!!!
