I've only got caster or normal sugar can I still make icing?

you could try pulverising it in the processor

or make butter icing

Even caster sugar's too coarse. Second the idea of pulverising it in a food processor - my dad never bought caster or icing sugar, he made his own. You can never get it quite as smooth, but it's workable.

Thanks, how do I make chocolate butter icing? Sorry cakes arent my thing usually. well not cooking them

whizz up 50g butter, 100g sugar and a spoonful of cocoa powder. Adding an egg yolk makes it a bit more spreadable.

Or use a bit of milk to make it spreadable if you're not keen on raw eggs
