We have one manic day, when ds and i go to toddler group at 12.45 til school pick up, then take dd2 to rainbows, home at 4.30; have 30 mins to feed dd1 before have to pick up dd2 and drop dd1 @ brownies, then get home and feed everyone else around 6ish.

I need ideas which are either extreamly quick (have managed pasta just) or v slow to cook, but can be put on about 12:30, some taken out at 4:30 and the rest left until 6. I have done a stew, steak + kidney and coq au vin. The problem I also have is the veg, pots to go with it, they enjoy jacket pots from oven, not microwave, but can't get timing/temp right for 4hrs. Salads will be ok if summer ever comes, but have another 2 yrs of this yet. Have gas oven with S and 1/2 options below 1. Any suggestions - no dairy, some cheese ok.

School dinners, then sandwiches in your half-hour-to-feed-DD1?

you can cook jackets in the microwave until they're nearly done, & then stick them in a hot oven to crisp up - would that work?

You got a microwave? Do a lasagne the day before, then cut it up and bung it in the microwave and serve with a bit of salad.

I mean you could do the pre-cooking bit ahead of time & just finish them off in your mad half-hour Grin

does your oven have an automatic timer?

Or shepherds/cottage pie. I find they are often better the day after cooking anyway.

Pot roast
Joint of beef, jug of stock with a bit of crushed garlic, pepper and mustard, on a bed of root veg.
