shopping a day late and no potatoes! Would normally have jackets and beans or wedges or mash or whatever potatoe-y.

I have pasta, rice and cous cous + store cupboard bits. Any recipes? Thanks!

Toad in the hole is yum - flour and eggs is all you need. That's your carbs, add couple of veg and gravy if poss. MMMmmmmm.

Yes, toad in the hole is the answer. To most questions actually. We are having it tonight WITH roast potatoes, for extra added Great British carbohydrate goodness. Also carrots, green beans, roast parsnips and onion gravy. But you don't really need the potatoes.

Thank you, that tomato one looks perfect. It's only me and the kids tonight so want something easy as only the baby and I will like it anyway

Can't link as on phone but search BBC good food for fragrant pork & rice one-pot, it's yummy!

I did a tomato & veg sauce with chopped up cooked sausages in it with pasta last night & dcs loved it.

Spookey80 · 22/04/2012 14:02

If you've to a tin of lentils, fry off an onion, garlic add tin of tomatoes and let it all simmer for a bit. Start sausages off in another pan, then add once browned to Tom stew, add lentils and let sausages absorb tomatoe flavour. Very yum.
....but now I want toad in the hole.

GinPalace · 22/04/2012 14:03

Fine! I'm gonna go to Theprovinciallady's house for dinner tonight anyway

ahhh ickle baby eating pasta - love those chubby cheeks all covered in tomato. Grin

FrillyMilly · 22/04/2012 14:03

Chop sausages in to about 4 pieces per sausage. Fry some onion and anything else you might have like garlic, peppers, mushrooms. Then brown the sausages. Chuck it in a casserole dish, pour in a tin of chopped tomatoes and a bit of stock then pop it in the oven for half an hour. Serve with either pasta, rice or cous cous.

As you're coming GinPalace, I'll make apple crumble and custard for afters. You bring the Hendricks.

GinPalace · 22/04/2012 14:29

How did you know I have Hendricks in my cabinet?? Shock will bring cucumber, lime and mint leaves too.

I am fainting with pleasure at the thought - wish so wish I really could come it would brighten my weekend no end!!!

Oh Crivens, I wasn't braced for food porn when I woke up this morning apple crumble and custard. Tears actually came to my eyes at that (no exagerration) as it has been so long since I had it. I haven't baked for a while for reasons I won't bore you with. The thought of it has made my heart all warm and fuzzy. Grin

ImNotAnsweringIt · 22/04/2012 15:17

www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/1708/lincolnshire-sausage-and-lentil-simmer for future reference - its good. Too good Wink

GinPalace · 22/04/2012 15:23

Poohbears I'm going to check that out - I love lentils and the sausage may just persuade my boys to swallow it. Yay!

PoohBearsHole · 22/04/2012 15:40

It is so nice, dh phoned me the other day and demanded we have it Wink it is also very good for using up frozen sausages as all the other flavours are so fresh!

TheProvincialLady · 22/04/2012 16:39

If you're in the Leicester area, it'll be ready in about 25 minutes GinPalace. I wish you could come tooSmile We obviously have a lot of important things in common.

GinPalace · 22/04/2012 16:43

Ahhh sadly TheProvincialLady I am over 25 minutes away in Manchester area and wouldn't want to be cause of over-cooked veggies. ... are you still doing apple crumble?

It is important to have important things in common I find. Grin

TheProvincialLady · 22/04/2012 16:46

No, I vacuumed upstairs instead

GinPalace · 22/04/2012 16:48

But it's Sunday apple crumble and custard trumps vacuuming on a Sunday!!

Still - makes me feel a bit better I suppose.

TheProvincialLady · 22/04/2012 16:55

I know, I know. But I remembered the double decker and wispa I consumed earlier, and thought I might die of a heart attack if I added apple crumble to toad in the hole.

But you're right - vacuuming on a SundayShock

GinPalace · 22/04/2012 17:01

Well so long as the family don't know it was a potential for a while there you might get away with it.

BlackAffronted · 22/04/2012 17:08

Balsamic & honey roasted sausages here

TheProvincialLady · 22/04/2012 17:10

I didn't tell them so need for the gin....but what the hell. Have you any Fentimans tonic?

GinPalace · 22/04/2012 17:19

OOOoo no! - never tried it. Think I may have seen it in The Chap magazine. Have just googled it and it looks lovely. Can offer only schweppes

I should stop getting distracted by food and drink dreams and get my work done - the reason I am on my computer
