Sorry couldn't be of more help.

Puddle - tomato and lentil soup must be the easiest thing in the world to make. If you have made it once you can make it again!
If I were you I would - Chop onions and garlic and maybe a carrot and a stick of celery. sautee them a bit in some oil. add the lentils and sautee a bit more. add a tin of tomatoes and a few pinches of dried herbs such as oregano, rosemary and thyme. add some vegetable stock, simmer it for 15 minutes and puree. Taste it and add salt and pepper as you like.

carmenere - I agree - tis cooking now. But am sure there was a secret ingredient in the cranks one that made it especially yumbo, can't for the life of me remember what it is though.

It's actually called L & T soup!

1 sml onion
225g toms
2 tbs oil
100g lentils
300ml tom juice
900 ml veg stock
½tsp thyme
½tsp yeast extract
s & p to taste

Chop onion and toms. Heat oil in saucepan and saute onion until transparent. Add remaining ingredients, cover and simmer for 30 mins. Adj seasoning to taste. Sprinkle with grated cheese.

JanH · 09/02/2006 19:53

Homity Pies

300g wholemeal shortcrust pastry (recipe in book too, do you need that?)
350g spuds
450g onions
3 tbs oil
25g butter or marg
15g chopped parsley
100g grated cheese
2 crushed garlic cloves
1 tbs milk
s & p to taste.

Roll out pastry and use to line 6 4" individual tins or foil dishes. Boil or steam spuds until tender. Chop onions and saute in oil until really soft. Combine spuds and onions, add butter, parsley, 50g cheese, garlic, milk, and season well to taste. Cool, then use to fill the pastry cases. Sprinkle with remaining cheese and bake in 220C oven for 20 mins, until golden.

Alternatively use to make one 8" flan. Bake for 25-30 mins.

Pleasure, puddle - love Cranky Godmother

I mostly only use it for the soup recipes which are gorgeous. Given that I don't do baking really, what else do you recommend?

notasheep · 09/02/2006 20:02

The stew thing-think its aubergine and red bean or something-i am being too lazy not getting off here to wander into kitchen for book!

JanH · 09/02/2006 20:12

Oooh, it's on the page after homity pies and I was thinking it looked interesting - thanks, nas!

(What are red beans though? Same as kidney beans?)

notasheep · 09/02/2006 20:22

Yes kidney beans though suppose you could use what you fancy

TheMaddingCrowd · 19/11/2021 13:33

Lol I was just going to say that if there was a secret ingredient it was probably Marmite. And lo and behold this is true!

gindreams · 22/11/2021 22:43

Well I wanted a lentil soup recipe and I used to love cranks !
