Birthday cake tin - worth investing in? Do you have a recipe to fill a 25cm square tin?!

I'm considering buying a really good quality square cake tin, 10 inches square, to keep for birthday cake making. It's £25 - do you reckon it's worth it?

Also, would anyone have a recipe for sponge to fit such a big tin? Or know the 'proportions' for such a big cake? Would it be a six or eight egg mix??

Thanks for any advice! Hoping to make my first cake for my daughter which isn't a Victoria sponge covered with White icing and smarties!!

You'd be best off doing a maderia sponge:

500g butter
500g caster sugar
10 eggs
4 tsp baking powder
675g plain flour

My recipe says to bake at 180/gas 4 for 1.25-1.5 hours

Have got the quantities for fruit cake to go in same size tin if you want that as well.
