custard + cocoa powder = chocolate sauce: why didn't I know this years ago???

That's about it really. Was wondering what to give kids for pud, and Dd said can we have pears and chocolate sauce like at school? Then I vaguely thought, if you can use cocoa powder in cakes to make them chocolate, would it work in custard...And it DOES!!! Why didn't I know this years ago? How come no-one ever told me? Why didn't I think of it anyway?

Dawny - mix the custard powder, cocoa, and sugar while dry, then add enough milk to dissolve, then more milk before you heat it. Bingo! Choc sauce/choc custard!

Ooh going to try it with our dairyfree custard and see if DS2 can have a chocolate treat!
