Could you go savoury? Pizza, pasties, sausage rolls?

moonblushtomato · 29/03/2012 22:39

Pizza sounds good, I could buy the bases then do lots of different toppingsSmile

hot cross buns - the mn bakealong recipe from Dan Lepard was great.

lilolilmanchester · 31/03/2012 17:34

What about moving them on to pastry - mine used to love rubbing the fat into the flour when they were little, I did the adding the water bit to make a dough, but they rolled out & cut out (pastry was usually overworked so a bit tough but they didn't mind!) e.g. jam tarts or cheese scones

Or if you want something quick and simple, make chocolate crispie cakes topped with mini eggs (crumbled Shredded Wheat makes it more nest-like)

no cook white fudge?

200g white chocolate, broken up and melted
175g unsalted butter
50g condensed milk
500g icing sugar

beat the butter to loosen

stir in the cooled chocolate and the condensed milk

gradually add the icing sugar, beating well,to make a doughish consistency

press into nonstick tray approx 25x15cm and freeze 15mins to firm up

runknife round the edge and tip onot a board cut into 48 squares

keeps a week in an aitight tin in a cool place

I don't bother with pizza bases and use wraps/muffins instead.

We decorate cookies with mini smarties and icing pens.

PotteringAlong · 03/04/2012 17:22

How about bread? Kneading could be great with them?

nextphase · 03/04/2012 17:48

My oldest is nearly 3.
He loves cutting things up. We make fruit salad sometime, or just melon salad - with 2 or 3 different coloured fruits.
He also loves pealing and grating, so we make carrot soup.
It only takes 30 secs but ice lollies are also a fav - we have a mould, so its just filling them with juice, and putting on the lids.

dd (3) has just made fruit salad (she cuts everything except apple herself) and loves plonking it in. At the moment she is making bread rolls with her daddy. Bread or hot cross buns are brilliant to make with little ones as they love all the kneading etc. She is trying to plait rolls now.
Our kids like making home made pizzas and rock cakes too.

moonblushtomato · 10/04/2012 19:24

Yes! Rock cakes, haven't made those in years!

Do you know of a good recipe?
