Lego Star Wars bday cake for ds - can anyone give me some simple ideas please?

I've decided to stop asking ds exactly what he fancies on his cake as he would really like a millennium falcon and that is way beyond my capabilities. I would like to make a star wars themed cake though and would welcome some ideas. My initial thoughts are a chocolate cake covered with grey or blue fondant icing (to be the universe), some silver stars and maybe an R2D2 made out of blue and white fondant. Think I will get on better if I make the characters 2D, then I don't need to stress about them falling over. Any other ideas of how I can make it look great in a fairly simple way?

i did an R2D2 like you say its a simple shape, an then i covered it in roll our white icing and then added details with icing pens, in blues, greys, etc it was really easy and looked great, my ds2 and his friends loved it :)

Make it a big Lego brick with star wars characters on top. If in doubt, buy some of the small plastic characters and stage a scene. (it doesn't matter that it's cheating; your DS will love it and he can keep the toys after).

or just do a regular cake and decorate it to look like a cene from starwars, space etc and put lego star wars people on it!

If it helps this is great as are these.

I have a logo crazy ds, they have come in very useful.

Brick mould currently on offer for £3.49 here, bit of a bargain:

I agree, use the lego characters to decorate the cake.

Don't show your DS this then Grin

More helpfully, we have one of these which would make a great fondant (well, modelling paste) R2D2.

We discovered last year that the paste food colourings can be simply painted on to a white iced cake. So I made a basic rectangular cake, then DH (the artistic one of us) cut it into R2D2 shape and painted it.

But generally, lego characters feature a lot in the decorating of our cakes for other themes.
