So where are the booby traps in Nigella's Feast?

I love Nige, but in each of her books there has been at least one utterly inedible, properly disgusting recipe - the banana muffins in Domestic Goddess, the Ham/Cola stock soup in How to Eat, the Flourless Brownies in Express.

I've just got Feast out of the library, and would be grateful for a heads-up on any dodgy recipes before i shell out for ingredients.

I don't think I've ever made anything of Nigellas that has been nice and I'm a fairly competent cook. Even her express rocky road tasted like cack... Who can bugger up rocky road?!

Sorry that's not much help. Suggest you take back book and borrow Delia, Mary Berry or one of those woman at home/women's institute type books that promises that the recipe has been tested many times. I do love reading Nigella's books though she writes wonderfully :)

Can't help - I really love Feast although I have only made a few recipes from it (more than from most cookery books tbh). I have always thought that I would like to hear part of the introduction to the Funeral Feast section read at a particular relative's funeral.

I really like the red kidney bean dip.

God not Delia. She's gone completely off the rails IMO. I've got her most recent Baking book - load of old rubbidge. To think she once produced the magisterial Book of Cakes Sad

Make the Guiness Cake - it is a thing of beauty and wonder and a joy forever (well, for the short time it lasts anyway).

i do have plenty of Delia, but when Nigella's on form she is really good, and we make lots of her recipes regularly. I will have a go at the kidney bean dip and the Guinness cake for a start.

I can't stand Delia - she makes cookery sound like bra-measuring. Yawn.

'bra measuring' Grin

The Lemon meringue cake in Feast is super, make this every year for DH's birthday :)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/03/2012 10:41

I didn't like the lemon meringue cake much - far too sweet. Would far rather have proper lemon meringue pie AND/OR cake instead of the two combined.
