I'm cooking for a friend tonight who's 3 months pregnant...I've no idea what she is/isn't allowed to eat - any ideas? Good recipes?

Thanks

No sushi and make sure eggs are cooked properly. I should ask her what she wants as sometimes people go off things they normally like when pregnant.

I once produced some delicious home-made Rum & Raisin Ice-cream when a pregnant friend came over for supper and the fuss she created about the miniscule alcohol content sticks with me to this day. (Didn't ask her back...)

That's a shame Cogito I quite enjoyed having the taste of baileys through the ice cream over christmas when the adverts suggested I needed it.

Just avoid any soft cheese recipes to save worrrying about that, avoid pate (inc vegetarian) and liver (vitamin A)

But I'd just check with her if you want to do anything and you're worried, everyone has different things, I havn't avoided rare steaks for instance, and sushi if fine if it's frozen before hand (which I doubt you'd be doing anyway unless you are some secret sushi chef)

I'd say most importantly provide some nice none alcoholic drinks just incase she doesn't bring anything and don't be offended if she doesn't eat much, I could hardly eat a whole plate when I was 3 months.

Check how nauseous she is. I couldn't stand the smell of a lot of things at 3 months.

sassymcnassy · 09/03/2012 10:42

anything she wants?

otchayaniye · 12/03/2012 17:51

I ate everything (first pregnancy in Asia and there are none of the usual imprecations, although there are some weird Chinese ones) but in both pregnancies couldn't stomach pork.

And my taste spectrum tended towards the sweet, so tomato based things went down well.

Ask her if there is anything she is "off"?

I ate most stuff when I was pg, but there is a list of stuff you are supposed to avoid. Unpasteurised cheese, raw egg, rare steak, that sort of thing.

here is the list on NHS choices

Pretty easy to avoid the things they mention TBH.
