So I've bought HFW's Veg Every Day, what to cook to win my DC over?

I've read all the reviews on here and it sounds great. It's arrived and it looks gorgeous but are there any recipes which are more child-friendly than others? I'd rather not dive in cooking something I'd like to eat to have it thoroughly rejected so I thought I'd ask your collective wisdom.

Mine (all under 10) will eat the nursery veg - carrots, peas, broccoli, etc. but not mushrooms, peppers, leafy greens, sweet potato (even though they used to when they are little).

The sweetcorn fritters are really yummy...They look a bit like pancakes? Might calling them sunshine pancakes help?!

Macaroni Peas? My lot devour it.

I've cooked quite a bit out of Veg Everyday - while not wishing to unashamedly promote my blog, you will get an idea about what's worked for us: recipe-junkie.blogspot.com/

My brood really really love the swede and potato pasties - i was quite surprised but they really love them and it's great recipe to make loads of and freeze. Other big successes have been the chachouka and the dahl (eaten with his garlicky flatbreads) and the twice baked potatoes. My daughter liked the cauliflower and chickea curry although I left out the chilli and my son was less keen. But DO NOT try the sweet potato gratin!!!

Macaroni peas is on the menu for tomorrow night for the first time, so I'm interested to see how that goes.

actually, I did the garlicky greens recipe (where you steam the leafy greens and toss in garlic oil) and mine really loved that when they don't normally enjoy leafy stuff that much.

Lurking with interest - my copy arrived yesterday :)

My copy arrived today!

The kale pizza is surprisingly good. It goes a bit like crispy seaweed.

also lurking with interest - I keep hearing so many good things about this book I have just ordered it from Amazon, and will have to take notes on what to try first.

Mine liked macaroni peas - not very adventurous I know!

We rather liked the sweet potato gratin, actually (although I used smoked paprika instead of chilli as I couldn't see the DC signing up for the original version).

TunipTheVegemal · 01/03/2012 10:24

RecipeJunkie, what was the problem you had with the sweet potato gratin? It's my favourite of all the Veg Everyday recipes I've tried so far and I haven't yet fed it to my kids but they love sweet potatoes.

Tmesis · 01/03/2012 10:25

Ha! Now I look at your blog, RecipeJunkie, it was your review of the gratin that I read before cooking it (and was a big factor in my switching out chilli for paprika). Because all the stuff you said you don't particularly like I do, so I thought that if you hadn't much cared for the gratin I'd probably like it Grin.

I do like your recipe reviews, by the way - just the right amount of detail.

Tmesis · 01/03/2012 10:31

(oh, and I used the juice of a whole lime based on your recommendation, too, rather than 2tsp)

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 03/03/2012 13:08

I also liked the sweet potato gratin but would use less lime next time Wink The world would be a very boring place if we all liked the same things :)

My children eat separately to us so I'm afraid I can't contribute as to what the dcs would like.
