do you put beans in chili?

have sneaking feeling it's not really supposed to have beans in at all but it always does in UK doesn't it?

I don't want any supermarket canned chilli-ness, I need to balance my own chilli-ness.

Made the Ginger Pig chilli this w/e using skirt of beef and black beans. Was absolutely delicious and will now be my new chilli recipe for when feeding friends. The black beans we lovely. Much nicer mouth feel than kidney.
