I will cook it allon the hob as usual, but instead of the simmering it for half an hour i need to put it in the slow cooker.
Can it go in there?
Would you cook it on low or high given that the meat will pretty much be cooked

yes, we quite often cook it in the slow cooker. What level you put it at will depend on how long you plan to cook it for

pinkhebe · 23/01/2012 14:23

I cook it on the hob, then it goes into the slow cooker for 4 - 6 hrs on low, 2 hrs on high

tiredteddy · 23/01/2012 14:23

When my sister does this she just browns the mince on the hob then puts all chilli ingredients in the slow cooker as normal to cook.

DressDownFriday · 23/01/2012 14:25

Yes. I don't even bother browning the mince. I just sling everything in and cook. I don't put as much liquid in though.

I'd be careful about kidney beans in the slow cooker.

should be OK if you use tinned beans. Def wouldn't try using uncooked ones - IIRC they need proper heat to denature some toxin.

I dont use kidney beans, we have baked beans.

I have 4 hours to cook it, so low or high? (its on high at the moment cos on tinternet it says 8 hrs on low)

Would have it on low. Mine had a lot of liquid, will use less than full can of tomatoes next time.
