Carrots! Omg no no no no. Mmm yep you should use a lard pastry but I can't stomach that so just use shortcrust. My aunt use to initial the pasties with a 'T' for pasties with turnips and a 'T' for the pasties that were t'aint turnip, sadly that is true, she couldn't see the problem when pointed out to her!

Captain, I'm from Redruth (no longer there) can understand why you gf left for Montana (apologies if there are any 'druth people reading). However, Berrymans pasties are the best in the world, I miss them do much that I had them delivered for my wedding and had a pasty tower instead of a cake, if anyone goes to Cornwall it really is worth popping into redruth for a berrymans pasty, or portreath bakery, yum yum yum.

I'm sure Redruth was different in 1911! Never lived there myself but it's where all my family originate from... That and Calstock.

I may have to hide this thread if I see anymore nonsense about carrots! Smile

I'm sure Redruth is different now then when I lived there in the eighties Smile

Pottering let us know how the pasties turn out, wish I was having them for dinner tonight.

Am not there now but Redruth has changed so much over the years. It did go IMO downhill a fair bit but they are trying to pull it back up now. The main street has seen so many changes of shops I can't honestly tell you apart from HSBC what is there now !
However thanks to this thread I have asked a friend to bring me a swede when she comes over in March !!!! DH is well pleased . Mind you the best was when my mother brought pasties over that she had purchased fresh that morning.... DH was in his element..... They haddn't gone soggy either with the journey !
