Am I about to give my family food poisoning??

DH is extremely careful about food hygiene while I go to the other extreme, so I need you lot to tell me if I am being paranoid here! Making chicken pie tonight, so I have defrosted the chicken at room temperature today. I bunged it into our smaller oven (while it was off!) to get it out of the way, but forgot about it as I cooked some other things in the main oven. The chicken was definitely defrosted when I finally remembered and whipped it out - and at blood temperature to the touch. I started cooking it straight away - brought to the boil and poached for 15 mins, but I am now wondering if it is too risky to carry on.

Erm, I think you'll be fine as long as cooked through and piping hot as they say :)

Had any of the meat started to cook - gone white? I would use it but if you are cooking for anyone vulnerable then maybe not!

I'd say that sounds absolutely fine so long as it wasn't already on it's use by date when you froze it.

milkmoustache · 10/01/2012 19:20

No, it was all definitely looking and feeling completely raw, it was just faintly warm.

Then thats fine IMO!! I try to poison my diners all the time and they're all still standing Grin

Its got four hours of safety at room temperature before its dodgy

recall · 10/01/2012 19:37

accumulative

Anyone else? The sauce is done and the dish of cooked chicken and veg is now looking at me accusingly... I was planning to put the lot in the freezer for another day but I am now in a state of total indecision - help!!

Its fine, eat it and freeze the rest, as with all food when you reheat the second serving make sure its piping hot!

I really wouldn't worry. If the chicken had turned you will taste it straight away. so my poor DP tells me, when I have tried to make him eat dodgy chicken Blush
